Location Groups

A Location Group is an optional but powerful feature that allows administrators to create logical groupings of Locations within a single Brand.

This feature is designed to simplify the management and analysis of a Brand that operates numerous locations across different regions or with different characteristics.

Core Concepts

Instead of managing hundreds of locations individually, you can group them into named collections. A single Location can belong to multiple Location Groups simultaneously, providing immense flexibility. This many-to-many relationship allows you to "tag" locations based on various attributes.

Use Cases for Location Groups

Location Groups are primarily used as a targeting mechanism within other parts of the FNBNext system, such as the Rules Engine and Reporting.

  • Regional Management:

    • Example: A national burger chain can create groups like "West Coast", "East Coast", and "Midwest". This allows a regional manager to apply a price change or a promotion only to the locations in their specific territory.
  • Store Format / Type:

    • Example: A brand might have different types of stores. They can create groups like "Airport Kiosks", "Mall Food Courts", and "Standalone Restaurants". This allows them to set up a special, limited menu that only applies to the "Airport Kiosks" group.
  • Operational Attributes:

    • Example: You can create a group for all "24-Hour Locations" to manage a special late-night menu, or a group for "Locations with a Drive-Thru". A single location could be in both of these groups.
  • Marketing Campaigns:

    • Example: For a "Big City Summer Special" promotion, an admin can create a temporary group called "Major Metro Areas" that includes locations in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
  • Analytics & Reporting:

    • Example: A financial analyst can run a sales report and filter not by individual locations, but by a Location Group like "High-Performing Stores" or "New Stores (Opened 2024)" to compare their performance against the rest of the brand.

How It Works

  1. Creation: Within the Brand Dashboard, an administrator creates a new Location Group (e.g., "Southern California").
  2. Assignment: The administrator then selects and assigns all relevant locations (Los Angeles, San Diego, Irvine, etc.) to this group. The same location can be assigned to other groups like "Airport Kiosks" and "24-Hour Locations" in separate actions.
  3. Targeting: When creating a ContextualOverrideRule, instead of selecting a single locationId, the administrator can now select a locationGroupId. The rule will then automatically apply to all locations that are members of that group.

By using a flexible, many-to-many grouping model, FNBNext provides a scalable way to manage complex, multi-location brands, reducing manual effort and ensuring consistency across logically related stores.
